USD/INR closed at Rs 68.7800 against its opening at 68.9600.  Dollar ended down Wednesday on FII inflows into HDFC AMC's Initial Public Offering (IPO) amid selling by exporters. "Expecting inflows into HDFC AMC's exporters too were on the sell side today,".  The pair dropped after opening little changed Wednesday on selling by exporters and foreign banks.

There are no fresh triggers in the market, but foreign banks are seen offloading dollar positions leading exporters to cover their positions," said a dealer with private-sector bank. 

Globally, Asian shares were higher, supported by strong Wall Street earnings and hopes China's government spending would boost growth but trade tensions remain in focus ahead of a meeting between the US and European Commission presidents.

The index extended the previous day's gains made after China said it will adopt a more vigorous fiscal policy to cushion the impact of external uncertainties.
 
The greenback traded mixed against its major peers on lack of significant US economic data.US house prices increased 0.2% in May, up from the previous month, however missing market expectations of a 0.4%, reported the Federal Housing Finance Agency seasonally adjusted monthly House Price Index released on Tuesday.

Sensex ends at record high, Nifty settles below 11,150.
