Dollar closed at 65.7900 against its opening at 65.7900.Dollar ended at 11-month high Thursday on oil importers' demand as Brent crude oil prices inched towards $75 a barrel amid strong dollar following the release of US Federal Reserves' Beige Book.Dollar opened at eleven-month high Thursday on oil importers dollar demand and likely overseas funds outflow from local debt.However, intervention by the RBI limited the gains in spot pair."With crude getting stronger in overseas, demand for dollar is rising. FII sell-off was seen from local bonds,".Crude oil prices rallied to highest level since December 2014 after US oil inventories dwindled.Gilt prices opened at one-month low Thursday on selling by foreign portfolio investors after Brent crude oil prices inched towards $75 a barrel. Adding to this, weak rupee to actuated the fall in bond prices.Rising crude oil prices and depreciating rupee would add to headline inflation owing to uptick in imported inflation, and this in turn would raise possibility of RBI becoming more vigilant on policy rate. Dollar demand strengthened on optimism over US economic outlook that raised expectation of higher quantum of Fed rate hike in 2018.

 

BSE Sensex closed higher by 95.61 points at 34,427.29, while the Nifty 50 ended 39.10 points up at 10,565.30.

 Asia stocks rose modestly following data showing China’s economy grew a little faster than expected in the first quarter.

Gold prices were flat early Thursday while the dollar stayed firm helped by higher long-term U.S. Treasury yields, though lingering U.S.-China trade tensions kept the greenback’s gains in check.

Oil prices on Thursday remained close to late 2014-highs reached in the previous session as U.S. crude inventories declined and as top exporter Saudi Arabia pushes for prices of $80 to $100 per barrel by continuing to withhold supplies.
