        Asian shares fell on Tuesday and the euro slipped back to 6-1/2 month lows as early elections loomed in Italy, but a revival in diplomatic talks with North Korea and a retreat in oil prices from recent highs supported sentiment.

         Gold prices fell on revived hopes of a U.S.-North Korea summit, while a strong dollar also weighed on the market.
         
      • OIL

        Oil prices were mixed in Asian trading on Tuesday, but remained under pressure from expectations that Saudi Arabia and Russia would pump more crude to ease a potential shortfall in supply.

      • DOLLAR

        The dollar opened the week by sliding against other Asian currencies, giving up gains from last week.After rising to this year’s high of 94.21 on Friday, the U.S. dollar index, which measures the value of the dollar against a basket of six major currencies, fell during Monday morning trade in Asia as the market dealt with the developments over a U.S.-North Korea summit.

        Bitcoin prices were little changed . Reports that Korea’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb is set to ban digital coin trading in 11 countries including North Korea received some focus.
      • IRELAND

        Hundreds of women’s rights activist rallied in Belfast on Monday to put pressure on British Prime Minister Theresa May to reform Northern Ireland’s highly restrictive abortion rules after neighbouring Ireland’s vote to liberalise its laws.

        Japan Display shares plummeted more than 20 percent after South Korea's Electronic Times reported that Apple Inc had decided to use OLED screens for all new iPhone models for next year.

        South Korean Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon said on Tuesday the government will designate five key shipbuilding centers on the country's south coast as "industry crisis" zones eligible for economic support.

        An eight-day-old strike by Brazilian truck drivers is beginning to affect global commodity markets as soybean traders delay shipments and the country’s vast sugar industry shuts down more of its processing plants.

         The Tamil Nadu government on Monday ordered the permanent closure of a copper smelter controlled by London-listed Vedanta Resources after 13 people protesting to demand its shutdown on environmental concerns were killed last week.

        Chinese and U.S. envoys sparred at the World Trade Organization on Monday over U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims that China steals American ideas, the subject of two lawsuits and a White House plan to slap huge punitive tariffs on Chinese goods.

      • EUROPE

        The European Union told the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement body on Monday that it had acted within days of a WTO ruling to bring its funding of planemaker Airbus into line with WTO rules, a trade official who attended the meeting said.
