Dollar closed at 65.1400 against its opening at 65.2200. Dollar closed down tracking the weakness in dollar and surge in Asian currencies amid selling by foreign banks. The greenback remain subdued against its major currencies as investors remained on sideline awaiting the FOMC minutes to be released today and consumer price index data due later this week. Local stocks traded higher tracking Asian shares amid hopes of better than expected second quarter earnings compared to the previous quarter. Meanwhile, Asian stocks traded near decade highs Wednesday tracking record high closing for the US stocks and as fears over Catalonia's separation from Spain eased after the declaration of independence was signed and suspended.

Investors await the release of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) September meet outcome. Investors expect FOMC members mainly focus on inflation and its shortfall. The minutes may indicate that members preferred to reduce their estimate of the long-run neutral rate of interest as opposed to halting the normalization process. Meanwhile, International Monetary Fund lowered India's growth forecast to 6.7% from the earlier projection of 7.2%.

Sensex provisionally ends 141.22 points lower at 31,783; Nifty falls 0.45 percent to end below the 10,000-mark at 9,972.30..
